13 year old bullied into practicing his own suicide before killing self

A student survey has revealed that a 13 year old junior high school student from Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, who killed himself last October had been repeatedly forced by bullied to “practice” his suicide. 15 students responded to the school’s questionnaire about the bullying, but this information was never shared by the city’s board of education at a November 2011 news conference. The boy’s parents currently have an ongoing lawsuit in the local district court against three students, their parents, and the Otsu Municipal Government, seeking damages of 77.2 million yen (approx. $966,235).

From among the 15 student’s responses, their descriptions of the bullying included that the victim was beaten in the bathroom, forced to practice taking his own life everyday, told to put a dead sparrow in his mouth, extorted for money from “friends,” and forced to shoplift for the bullies. There were even explanations that the boy asked a teacher for advice, but the teacher didn’t help. When the Otsu District Court trial started in May, the municipal government admitted that the boy had been bullied, but also argued that it couldn’t be determined if the suicide was a result of the bullying.

The 13 year old boy was found dead on October 11th, 2011, not far from his home, with local police quickly determining that the cause of death was suicide. Some of the other torments the boy was put through include being held in a headlock and beaten, having his pants pulled down, and being forced to eat dead bees. Teachers were reported as having witnessed such behavior, but only mildly reprimanding the bullies. Professor Naoki Ogi of Hosei University, a critic of education, commented that the concealment of truth by the educational administration is a complete failure of the system. I would say that’s putting it lightly. Letting student behavior like go on, without protection from teachers, would be a major contributing factor into the suicide rate problem that plagues Japan.

So sad. This reinforces my resolve to make sure my son is prepared to defend himself and also of those who cannot defend themselves, at all costs.May this young man and all others who have been victims of cowards rest in peace.

no matter how much you prapere sometimes lone person can not do anything there is not only physical abuse but pshyhological too that is even more hard to endure … and answering bullies with violence is not always the best thing.. ofcourse its your right too choose. i have experience with bullying so i can tell some things from my experience.
adult support is the thing that can save lives but if they dont think its a serious problem this will continue… some times there is just no way to defend your self no matter how strong you are.

R.I.P. I hope the little sociopaths meet their pay backs. Modern society is pathetic in discouraging self defense. Violence often needs violence to thwart these asswipe bullies. My bullying by a Cro-Magnon in high school stopped when a large length of steel pipe was picked up to equalize the odds.It stopped when he realized I was going psycho. Teach your children self-defense and to have a back bone.

the bullies are criminals. Sue them, then throw them in jail.

I understand everyone’s anger at the bullies, rightfully so, but what I think is most outrageous is the fact that the school system, and even teachers, knew about what was going on and did nothing.

    This affair is really terrible.
The parent of perpetrators, a school, their person concerned cover up all.
It is certain that they tried to hush up the scandal.
I shudder at the mere thought of it.

Many Japanese get angry about this affair.
We are angry at the dereliction of duty of the mayor of Otsu-shi, The Otsu-shi Board of Education and Shiga Prefectural Police Department.

Bullying is becoming clever and persistent.
The class teacher, the school, the Board of Education did not perform any activity for the solution to problem.

    We never forgive them.
    We never miss a thing.

People complaining about the teachers but it is the same everywhere, teachers no longer have any power to discipline. parents take the side of their little angels and schools don’t want to have to deal with lawyers for suspending or expelling students so they turn a blind eye until something like this happens and everyone wrings their hands saying how terrible it is.

The problem is, in Japan children are almost completely raised by the teachers. Few parents “know” how to raise their kids, and the kids spend 85-90% of their waking hours at schools here (in Japan). Even on weekends. Teachers are expected to do absolutely everything, and there is even moral education. Teachers rarely do anything about any situation out of caution — there is deeply rooted culture (and response to war eras) about keeping peace. Never respond to an ugly situation with discouragement or “punishment”. And the students walk aaaall over the teachers. Sometimes the teachers might yell their heads off at a kid for turning in their homework late for the 4th time in a row. But otherwise gently nudge them awake or coo them into paying attention as they openly complain about how stupid a lesson or teacher is. There is no aggression. There is no “punishment”. And these ARE the people police will come to FIRST when there is a problem with a kid. Parent-teacher conferences happen at the kids’ homes! One by one! This way the teachers see the child’s living conditions. So, yes, the teachers are supremely responsible in this case. They have more authority than anyone over the children in Japan. The problem does exist everywhere in the world, but Japan is in the position to fix it, and won’t. Too many people’s reputation to consider. Too many ripples of distress. And sometimes, too much work when there’s already overtime. Yeah. That will be an excuse.

They should censor this from international eyes since they forced the Chinese to make sure to get right dying by one’s own hand. Is it still suicide if it is under duress? That’s MURDER not suicide. Now they are doing it to just one of their own when China lost over 60 million to the Japanese goblins. Of course, it is worth it. Japan is willing to pay any price to get away with gangraping millions of Chinese children. Can you even imagine doing that to one child? China lost MILLIONS of children in the most painful killings imaginable.

Lots of bullying cases were identified.Nevertheless, why are teachers reluctant to acknowledge that bullying is taking place?
