Tokyo police arrested a 35 year old man for allegedly stabbing his 17 year old high school girlfriend on Wednesday. Yoshio Nakata surrendered at a police station in Hiratsuka, Kanagawa Prefecture early in the morning of February 13 and admitted that he’d “killed a woman.”
A police officer found the bleeding body of Haruka Sakurai in the front hall of a house in Hachioji around 10:40 PM. She was bleeding from stab wounds she sustained to her back and chest. The student from Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture was pronounced dead on the spot. Initial investigation by the MPD’s Minami Osawa Police Station showed that Sakurai might have died from loss of blood from the numerous stab wounds on her body. Police also believe that the victim was in a romantic relationship with the suspect. When Sakurai’s father reported her missing and unable to get through to her cellphone since mid-afternoon, he father supposedly told the police that, “Maybe the man she’s dating knows something.”
Police found the body of Sakurai when an acquaintance of Nakata visited him at around 8:30 PM and saw blood seeping out the front door of his home. He then reported the incident at a local police box. Police who came to the crime scene also found a blood-stained knife in the kitchen, which they believed Nakata used to stab the victim. Nakata’s neighbors said that they noticed him move to Hachioji from Sagamihara in April 2011. At the time of the move, they noticed him with his father, a wife and a son. The wife and son, however, seemed to have moved out of the Nachioji house about a year and a half ago, according to the neighbors.
