Police in Nagoya have arrested a 23 year old man for kidnapping a 7 year old girl and keeping her in his apartment where it is believed he killed his own father. The girl was found unharmed on Monday night in an apartment belonging to Makoto Mizushima, which was in the same building as her own home. It was there that police found a dead body, now identified as the suspect’s 66 year old father.
Investigators say Mizushima took the young girl at around 8 AM, just as she was leaving her own apartment to go to school, and held her captive for almost 12 hours. The police were notified shortly after the girl’s parents discovered she never showed up for the first day of the school year. A search of the area was conducted, while Mizushima kept the lights off to appear as if no one was home, and the girl was eventually found in the apartment around 7:30 PM, sitting in a chair with a body covered by a blanked nearby.
Official’s say it appears as if Mizushima’s father was strangled, and that he hadn’t been dead for long. The 23 year is said to have lived in the building with his father for only about a year, and didn’t know the girl previous to her kidnapping. The young man has given little explanation of the reason behind his actions, but has confessed to killing his father.
