After investigations on the death of a 16-year old student in the city of Kure in Hiroshima Prefecture, police said that seven individuals now face murder charges. Six of the suspects are also students while the seventh individual was identified as a 21-year old unemployed man from Yurihama, Tottori Prefecture. According to reports, the deceased was brought and dumped at the Haigamine mountain in Hiroshima Prefecture back in June, while the suspects were arrested last month following the surrender of one of the suspects, who admitted committing the murder.
Initially, the student who turned herself in first said that she was alone when she committed the crime, although she mentioned that she rode in someone else’s car when she and the deceased went to the mountains. Such confession made the police reckon the involvement of at least another person. As investigations went on, she mentioned the involvement of her friends. Three of the suspects volunteered to turn themselves in, while the others denied getting involved. Those who came forward to the police testified to burning “cigarettes into the face of the girl while inside the car.”
Based on the investigations of the Hiroshima Prefectural Police, the other suspects are charged with murder, as they did nothing to stop the violence inflicted upon the victim while still inside the car. The suspects are also accused of continuing violence even upon arriving at Mt. Haigamine, where the body of the 16-year old student was dumped and abandoned. Only the 21-year old suspect, whose name is Taihei Seto, was identified, as the others are still minors.
The 16-year old suspect who first surrendered to the police admitted committing murder last month. Before turning herself in, the suspect used the smartphone application LINE to inform her friends with her plan of surrender. Using the same chat app, police were able to trace the involvement of the other suspects. The deceased, prior to the murder, was contacted by the suspects using LINE so they could meet in central Hiroshima City.
