Abe criticizes China’s handling of territorial dispute

China has allowed Japanese businesses operating in the country to be adversely affected by what is largely a political dispute. This was the statement aired by Japan’s new Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, who chided China over the way it is handling the row over a group of contested islands.

Tension rose between the two countries in September last year when the Japanese government purchased from a private individual three of five uninhabited islands called Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. While Japan currently has control, both China and Taiwan are claiming sovereignty over the islands believed to be rich in minerals and aquatic resources. Anti-Japanese sentiments and violent protests erupted in China, causing damage to Japanese companies and disrupting operations. Abe says that Beijing shouldn’t have allowed harm to come to these Japanese companies and nationals who are contributing to Chinese economy.

The new Japanese government has just approved a stimulus package that will increase the defense budget by a small amount. This will include improvements not only to the coast guard but also to the air force, in response to claims of Chinese government planes violating Japan’s airspace for the first time since 1958. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei spoke out against the budget increase, saying that Japan’s new military trend is worrying its Asian neighbors due to historical reasons. Ironically, the prospect of a rearmed Japan has enjoyed support from countries in the region, many of whom are more worried about China’s growing assertiveness.

only one thing can making sure what belongs to Japan/China, is wining the war, as English did in 1982. Specially, when you facing Chinese, today, they believe their economy has built a super military force and ready to take over what they believe belonging to China. Has Japanese been READY?

  • chinese_suck

This is for pele. I don’t think China wants it go that way because China is always a looser to Japan.

You are talking nonsense. All that Japan has, is stolen from China throughout history. Language, Religion, Ramen, Sushi, etc etc. Even the costume that they wear for the religion rituals are from China Tang Dynasty.

      • pete

Bee, did you agree that Chinese never won? Anyway, what’s Chinese have now? List something after Tang please. Don’t forget what happened late of Tang and before Tang was ending.

owo, I forgot that chinese never studied history because they can’t face it.

        • K

It seems that you also have a lot of fun in learing the history of massacre in WW Two, and take it as an honor to speak like savage ,while suited like a civilized westerner.

          • pete

K, If you were talking about WW2, “Massacre” in Nanjing, china, I have 2 questions for you:

            1. Why the “Massacre” did not happen after Japanese went in Shanghai?

            2. How much Japanese civilians were killed by chinese, after chinese took over “Dong Bei”, a Massacres, happened after WW2 and Chinese never talked about?
I knew that chinese never had chance to ask why for first question and don’t want to answre question#2.
When you talking about history, look it all, not just a pice your gov or teach told to you.

          • K

Yeah! I see a natioanlist. The last sentence in your comment is what I should tell you. Given the fact that your performence which seems holly in your words is not admirred by Chinese including Taiwanese and Korean , you should go back to primary school and pick up your history book again . Don’t ignore that Japan was a loyal follower of Fascism in WWⅡ. And according to your odd view , you mean that Japanese have any right to massacre any city in China except Shanghai. It is awful to learn that there’s no conscience shown in your words. Please don’t distort the history like your government .That’s sooooooooooooooooo stupid!!

          • pete

            Hey, K:

Why don’t you just answer my questions?

If you need more time to get approval fro your “leader”, that’s fine. B.T.W, how much were you paied today by Chinese gov?

          • leon

he might be on Chinese gov’s payroll, but you…kissing Japanese ass for free. bravo! LMAO

          • leon

            lolz,

China “TOOK BACK” Dong Bei after WWII. and yes the Japanese invaders might have been wiped out over there. I have no idea what exactly happened there and neither do you. No creditable source of document to cite.

The world is about power. Japan had an upper hand 100 years ago while Qing Dynasty were severely weaken by lots of internal conflicts and foreign invasions.

Yea, you got a piece of me back there. That was the only period Japan was ever more powerful than China in the last 2000 years. The rest of time, Japanese were busy sending thefts to China for its advance culture and technology.

However, today’s China has gotten back on its feet. Messing with a giant will likely get you injured.

It is true Japan adopted Chinese written characters and adapted “kanji” to complement its unique spoken language, but I don’t know why you say they “stole” it. Cultural exchange is an inevitable result of countries rubbing shoulders with one another. Would you say that Marco Polo stole spaghetti from the Chinese? As to religion, I believe some Chinese monks introduced Buddhist ideas to Japan around 500 BCE, but it only caught on after one of the Japanese empress Suiko sanctioned its study. And the Japanese incorporated Buddhist ideas in a syncretic way to complement its unique “indigenous” beliefs of Shinto. But wait, China itself did not invent Buddhism. It adopted it from INDIA. Would you say China stole India’s religion? Remember, Prince Siddhartha Gautama was Indian. Regarding fashion, i will take your word for it that the Buddhist or Shinto ritual clothing is similar to Tang because I have not researched this myself, but what of it? Would you say that modern China has “stolen” their current manner of dress from Europe and the US??? Or stolen various infrastructure (bridges, roads, train) and auto technology from the West and Japan? We live in an increasingly global economy where cultural exchange and learning from one another is happening at an increasingly faster rate, and it is increasingly difficult to track the exact origin of objects, fashions, cultural habits, slang, etc. In fact, isn’t it the point of a market economy (capitalist or socialist) to persuade as many people in the world as possible to adopt one’s product?? I think it is largely unproductive to claim that other countries have stolen culture from China. I look at this differently: China is a great civilization that has contributed much to world culture over the centuries, has survived and overcome colonization by a number of countries, a civil war, a land reform, a cultural revolution, and has emerged from all this as the #2 economy in the world. And there’s no need to be either defensive or self-righteous about one’s contributions. (P.S. I have never seen sushi served at a Chinese restaurant, and believe me, I have eaten in thousands: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hakka, Chinese Muslim, Fukienese, etc, etc. :) WP

You have a point there. But we have thousands of global range rockets carrying nukes…

And yes, we can shoot down any satellites we choose to.

          • Whirled Peas

The last thing the world needs is idle or real threats about nuke capability. It just reveals an aggressive mindset. China is a great civilization, but nukes don’t add to its appeal in my mind.
