As new evidence pointing to child abuse surfaced against a 26 year old babysitter who was taken into custody last month for the death of a 2 year old baby in his care, police in Fujimi, Saitama Prefecture have prepared a new warrant for his arrest. This time, the police are out to arrest Yuji Motte on charges of child pornography.
Investigators found naked photos of children saved on devices taken from Motte’s apartment. They suspect the children in the photos were those he was hired to look after. Motte was arrested in March after he failed to return two children under his custody, with authorities finding one dead and the other suffering from hypothermia. Police discovered that the mother of the two children had left them with a different man, who picked them up and delivered them to Motte. The suspect insists that he fell asleep after drinking medicine and woke up to discover the 2 year old dead.
The mother of the children told police that she had already used the services of Motte on previous occasions. However, she stopped hiring him after her older child, aged 9 years old, came home with injuries twice. At that time, she did not recognize Motte as the babysitter, as he gave her a false name and had another man pick the children up. The suspect has a website where he advertises his babysitting services. As there is no law in Japan that requires babysitters to be certified before taking children under their care, many can freely advertise their services online.
