The Chinese writer “Eagle Dad” makes me want to smack him and ask him to do the same kind of illogical things he makes his son endure in the name of education. Yes mister, you run naked in the streets of New York in peak snow and do push ups; don’t make your four-year-old son do it! And you climb Mount Fuji in scanty clothes alone, especially when the climbing season is over!
Controversial Eagle Dad He Lie Sheng brought his two children to Japan with the intention of climbing the blissful Mount Fuji and asserting that the Senkaku Islands belong to China. Unaware that the climbing season was long over in August, he forced his daughter and son to climb the mountain right up to the eighth station. To make matters worse, they soon ran out of food because all the snack shops en route were shut. The shameless father had dressed his children in clothes that showed patriotism, but lacked the warmth to keep them snug.
At the eighth station, the temperatures dropped to near freezing point and the onset of rain made the children cold. Soon the children began experiencing fatigue and altitude sickness, putting their health at risk. At the eighth station a Japanese first aid officer gave the children hats and mittens and told them all to turn back as the climb to the summit could prove fatal. The father has been subjecting his children to illogically strict regimes in the name of educating them and making them tough. Well Mister Eagle Dad, if only you would have applied the same education to yourself, you would have known in advance that Mount Fuji is open to climbers from July to August end.
