Police officials revealed on Wednesday that they arrested a 20 year old man for trying to kidnap a 12 year old girl in Hiroshima on Tuesday night. The young man in custody is Tomohiro Kodama, a college student from Setagaya, Tokyo. He is said to have forced the elementary school student into a large travel bag by threatening her with a knife.
If that doesn’t sound horrifying enough, what the poor girl went through next certainly is. Police say that just before 9 PM on Tuesday night, Kodama hailed a taxi and had the driver help him put the bag in the car’s trunk. The driver says he knew something was off because he could feel something warm and soft in the bag. After they drove along for about four kilometers, the driver could clearly hear crying coming from the trunk and asked Kodama is there was a dog or other animal in the bag, to which he didn’t reply.
Kodama asked to get out of the car when they were stopped at a traffic light a few minutes later, but the taxi driver grabbed and restrained him while called for help. A passerby is said to have called the police, who then arrived a few minutes later. Thankfully the girl was found and she was unharmed. The 20 year old has admitted to kidnapping the young girl, but the strangest part is that he had never met her before. He has also given no explanation of what exactly he was trying to accomplish.
