Police discovered the decayed body of a 16-year-old-girl at a house in Kumamoto after her mother was taken into custody at the Fukuoka Airport where she was attempting to board a plane without money or a passport. The girl is believed to have died between 2-6 months ago.
The 58-year-old woman arrived at the airport on Saturday afternoon and was taken into custody after it was found out she was trying to board a flight with only a few yen in her pocket. She was rambling on and kept saying “I wanted to go overseas”. She appeared disheveled and in a weak state, so she was brought to the hospital. The police then paid a visit to her house, where they discovered the remains of the daughter in the kitchen. The woman’s husband had been away, working in Fukuoka Prefecture for some years and the two were the only ones living at home.
Records from the Kumamoto child consultation center showed that the girl had been missing school since she was in fifth grade, and stopped going to school altogether by June of 2012. She was not able to advance to high school because of the lack of education, and the woman reportedly refused to have state welfare officers come and visit her at home. The police contacted the husband who immediately flew home and identified his daughter’s body. No word yet as to the cause of death.
