Following the news that Miki Ando had given birth to a daughter in April this year, the 25-year old and two-time figure skating champion has become the object of scrutiny. The media has become hyped in taking leads on Ando’s activities, which the figure skater considers interruptive. Ando now asks the media to respect her privacy.
“I am followed even when I go shopping, and I can’t even have a normal daily life,” Ando described. “I’m a human being just like anyone else and I have my own concerns,” reminded Ando. Besides following her trail, the media are also inquisitive with regard to her daughter’s father. Ando has remained mum about his identity, and reminded that people “will not hear any announcement” from her, as she respects the family of her daughter’s father, although at the announcement of her motherhood, Ando has said that “various arrangements have been made with the partner.”
When inquired how she manages to juggle her time between figure-skating and motherhood, “half-and-half” was Ando’s best way of description. She also refers to her daughter as her inspiration, “always there, which helps” her to push herself to fight even when she comes home tired and has worries. Ando admitted considering abortion when she first found out that she was pregnant, but has “chosen the baby’s life over skating.” She said her decision was “made naturally as a woman.”
