If you’re reading this post, then you probably need the gadget-specific glasses to keep your eyes healthy. Apparently the blue light emitted from electronic devices with screens, including computers, TVs and smartphones, can harm your eyes in the long run. Insomnia and eye fatigue are the two most common side effects of prolonged use of devices. To makes sure you don’t suffer from any of these, you need to wear ‘computer glasses’ that cut the amount of blue light reaching your eyes.
Jin Co., the makers of Jins PC glasses have reported that users most often revert with a very positive feedback. Currently the glasses are available with a brown tint and in clear glass. The Blue Light Society, a Tokyo-based group of ophthalmologists, say that Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) emit more blue light than non-LED devices. And from all the visible spectrums, the blue light conitains the strongest amount of energy in them.
In tests conducted on employees of Microsoft Corp.’s Japan branch by Minami Aoyama Eye Clinic in Tokyo, the use of the specialized eyewear eased pain in the eyes, neck, shoulder and back, and reduced glare from screens. These gadget-specific glasses can be bought with prescription number or just plain. The light-brown tinted glasses absorb the blue-light and the clear ones deflect it. They are priced between ¥4,000 to ¥20,000, depending upon their frames and prescription number, if any. Some companies have started providing computer glasses to employees in their health package.
