A German national, wanted for an alleged assault on two employees of a hotel in Sendai, has reportedly escaped the custody of the Miyagi Prefectural Police on Wednesday evening. He has been placed on a nationwide wanted list after breaking out of the Sendai Central Police Station in Aoba Ward.
25-year-old Shchus Petro Vladimirovic was taken into custody last October 30 on suspicion of inflicting bodily injury when he allegedly beat and kick two male hotel workers in Sendai. Police say he escaped custody on Wednesday when he managed to loosen the rope that had bound him at the waist. The officer in charge of the interrogation left his seat and so the German managed to “attack” one of the officers present in the room. Since he was not wearing handcuffs at that time and the door was left open, he managed to escape but it was unclear how he was able to go from the fourth floor to the ground floor and outside without anyone noticing.
Investigation shows that he was able to hitch a ride from the police station to Tagajo, Miyagi Prefecture and the man who unknowingly helped him said he let him out near JR Tagajo Station. A man who owns a glass shop near the train station said he gave a long-sleeved shirt to a foreigner who was hanging around the shop because he looked cold. Imagine his shock when he found out the man was wanted by the police. The Miyagi police apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused by the suspect’s escape.
