The International Rugby Board (IRB) announced Friday that Japan will host the 2019 World Cup. IRB chairman, Bernard Lapasset believes this method is the best way to increase the sport’s fan base, by promoting the national team. The Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU), supported by IRB, is expected to see remarkable and high quality talent escalate during the next seven years.
This event calls for everything new such as coaches, teams and even location. Lappasset remarks that this is just a stepping stone and will collaborate with Eddie Jones, the national coach, to bring out the intensity in players so they can perform to the highest of standards. Lappasset, who regularly attends the 2019 World Cup meeting in Tokyo, also plans to develop a program with IRB in support of Japan by extending the number of games, as players will be performing regularly at a high level.
Rugby is continuously growing in support and appreciation not only in Japan but Asia altogether. The number of players, both men and women, expected to participate in the World Cup have already increased by 90 percent. When it comes to supporting a team or festivals, Japan always takes it to the next level by providing high level, positive energy and hosting for the World Cup will live up to those expectations.
