Mao Sugiyama underwent voluntary surgery in order to become asexual. The 22 year old illustrator was given his frozen penis and scrotum, and instead of keeping them as mementos of his previous life, he offered to cook and serve them up to the highest paying bidders. Five “lucky” guests paid roughly $250 each to be served a portion of Sugiyama’s penis, scrotum, or testicles, garnished with mushrooms and parsley, in Tokyo.
Going by the nickname HC, Sugiyama’s first consideration was to eat his penis himself, but instead decided to cook for others. Posting on Twitter, he originally offered the meal for one person, for around $1,250. In the end, he decided to go with serving five people, tweeting that was Japanese, and would offer his full male genitals as a meal for 100,000 yen. Sugiyama added that the organs were surgically removed when he was 22, had been tested free of venereal diseases, and had been functioning normally. The price would also include Sugiyama preparing and cooking his genitals as the buyer requested, and at their preferred location.
The even took place in Tokyo’s Suginami ward, and was attended by almost 70 guests. Those not dining on Sugiyama’s organs were served beef or crocodile. The five special diners included a 30 year old couple, a 22 year old woman, and 32 year old man, and a 29 year old event planner, who said that the opportunity was a once in a lifetime chance, and made his decision on impulse. The guests were required to sign a waiver that they would not hold Sugiyama responsible for any illness after eating his genitals, and then he took to the kitchen, under the supervision of a professional chef. After the meal, the diners commented that the genitals had very little taste, and were very rubbery. Police had been notified of the event, but since no crime was being committed, there was nothing to investigate.
