According to a survey conducted in May by the Ministry of Education, the job market scene for young graduates is getting pretty harsh. On the whole there has been a slight improvement in the employment scene, but it’s negligible and the problem still persists – No Jobs!
Here are some numbers crunched for you by the ministry:
In simple terms, one in four fresh graduates is unemployed or underemployed. Whether it the question of attitude or lack of opportunity that is rendering most youth unemployed, remains to be seen. Many of them are still hopeful and are pursuing their job hunt or post grad courses, a huge chunk has given up all hopes. About 33,500 graduates said they are neither job-hunting nor are looking at additional degree or training. The growing phenomenon of the “NEET,” or “not in employment, education or training” finds 600,000 people falling under this bracket, nationwide.
