As you may know Light Novels are easy-read books intended for young adults and run not more than two hundred pages. They generally have a candy floss theme and sport many pictures too. The latest trend in these books is pointing towards serious psychological repercussions, if not nipped in the bud. Books based on incest themes are catching flame and spreading like wildfire, especially the ‘My Little Sister’ series.
The book has grown so popular that spin-off manga and anime adaptations and videogames are also available. The series My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute, narrates the story of a regular high school student who finds out his phenomenal younger sister is actually a closet otaku. She is fixated with anime and incest-themed adult computer games! Delving into the theme of incest between regular blokes and their not-so-innocent younger sisters seems to have caught the fancy of the young Japanese.
How can authors pen such books! With enticing titles like My Little Sister is Mad Because My Girlfriend Came Onto Me? and I Know You’re My Brother but as Long There’s Love it Doesn’t Matter, Right? , what are the publishers trying to get at. Agreed sex sells, but these are young impressionable people we are talking about. The future of Japan lies on their shoulders, and if they are being brought up on books that tell them its ok to see your kith and kin in a sexual light; just where the heck are we heading? We need to draw the line somewhere!
