It was a grisly discovery that you thought only happened in movies or TV crime shows, but unfortunately, this was real life in Japan. A nurse who had been missing since late March was found inside a package that had been marked as a “doll” and shipped from Osaka to Tokyo, authorities discovered earlier this week.
The box that supposedly contained a doll in fact had the body of 29-year-old nurse Rika Okada, whose body had more than a dozen stab wounds. As if that wasn’t morbid enough, the box actually was delivered from Osaka to the city Hachioji in greater Tokyo and then was later on discovered inside a locker room. The delivery company said that the postage for the delivery and the locker room fee had been paid by Okada’s credit card. Police are now in custody of a woman, a childhood friend of the victim’s, who was caught entering China illegally by using the dead woman’s passport. The victim’s last Facebook post said she was going to meet with an “old friend” she had not seen for almost 10 years.
Authorities say the 29-year-old woman was already in Shanghai and was turned over by the Japanese consulate to Chinese authorities when they found her to have used false documents when entering the country. But now the Osaka police are asking the Chinese authorities to turn the woman over to them as she is under suspicion for this crime against her school friend. The unnamed suspect lives just a few hundred yards from where the locker room is located. Police are looking into what happened to Okada from the last time she was heard from up until the discovery of her body.
