It seems like there remain men who are not man enough to accept breakups. Such was the case of a 33-year old nursing assistant in Miyazaki Prefecture who has been arrested for allegedly sending repeated, and unquestionably bothersome, emails to his ex-girlfriend.
The police said on Tuesday that Masashi Hidaka was arrested for sending around 180 emails to his 25-year old former lover. With all the time in the world, Hidaka has piously sent the emails within three days time. According to the police, some of his messages even contain encouragement for his ex-girlfriend to commit suicide. As if it was not enough for the man who cannot move on, he also posted messages online suggesting that he knows the whereabouts of his ex-girlfriend.
Japan revised and improved its anti-stalking law back in June, and has included repeated sending of emails as a form of harassment. The change of system was prompted by a number of stalking turned murder cases. A high-profile case in May found a 24-year woman stabbed to death by a stalker, although she has reported to the police that she was being followed and threatened. Albeit the revised anti-stalking law, the police are still found slow in adopting the anti-stalking law. Early this month, an 18-year old student from Tokyo was also found dead after being stabbed by a stalker just hours after reporting to the police.
