Are you the kind of dog owner that always feels uneasy and anxious whenever you’re far away from your beloved pet? A new gadget released by NTT Docomo might be the answer to your prayers, as the high-tech dog collar will allow you to monitor your pet’s location and health concerns like sleep and “exercise.”
Called the “Petfit”, the tag is attached to the dog collar and contains a satellite positioning system that will send information to your smartphone to let you know whether your pet is sleeping, walking or running. The information contains relevant information like how many minutes or hours your dog is sleeping and if it is getting enough rest. It also shows how many steps your pet has taken and consequently, how many calories it has burned when doing its activities. In addition, it can determine the ambient temperature of where your pet is.
A spokesman for Docomo said they decided to release this product in the Japanese market where there are an estimated 11 million dog owners. Most of the people who have hounds are very concerned with their pets’ well-being. This is also part of the company’s move to let consumers realize a “smart life with mobile phones.” The Petfit will be available to the market starting this March and is priced at $253, which already includes data transmission fees to mobile phones.
