A nursing student is now facing reproof from her school, not to mention from the society, for posting photos of internal organs on Twitter. Two cancer patients’ had their internal organs captured and shared to the Twitter world by a 19-year old student of Gifu Municipal Nursing School back in May. The post was later deleted, but the damage has already been done.
It was only on Sunday morning when the school was notified with what their student has done. The nursing school has already taken disciplinary action, citing the student’s deed “not permissible based on ethical grounds.” During a Pathology Class on May 21, students were shown parts of stomach and large intestine surgically removed from two cancer patients. While being passed around the class, the 19-year old student took photos and posted them on Twitter with the disclaiming caption: “Warning: Stomach, disgusting.” When asked, the nursing student said that she “only wanted people to know” what they have learned in class.
“I didn’t know it would become such a big deal,” the student admitted. Obviously, it was ethically a big deal. The student was even supposed to ask permission first from their professor if it was okay to take a photo of the organs. When the tweet was questioned, the student deleted the post by the end of last month. However, there were already other users who retweeted the post, and even websites that shared the images.
