They are creepy, crawly and have probably outlived the dinosaurs; they are cockroaches and we hate them! This summer you can expect to see these pesky pests spoiling your appetite by crawling over your kitchen counter. However Japanese chemical company LION has found an innovative way to arm you with information on their whereabouts. Their online website Gokiten or Cockroach Weather, keeps you informed about their activities in your vicinity.
The web-page displays a map of Japan and showcases the weather forecast for various regions. However this forecast also combines the Cockroach Index to determine how likely you are to find the bug in your home today. The Cockroach Index features 6 color coded levels; the least being Blue when cockroaches are in hibernation and you will not chance upon them.
The highest risk of finding cockroaches is when the level is notched up to Level 4 Red – Cockroach Alert (High of 30℃, Low of 25℃). The site also supports a panel where cockroach sightings are recorded. You can even log your own experience of Cockroaches found and killed, and even express your emotions you went through while doing the act. The entire activity is to draw your attention to Varsanman, the roach bomb of LION. And it does so in a very enterprising way!
