A newspaper published in Japan that is believed to be the mouthpiece for the North Korean government has said that the revival of the stalled six-party talks between China, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Russia and the United States is the solution to lessen the tension in the region. This comes out as Seoul continues to be on high alert as reports come in that Pyongyang is readying itself for another missile test in the next few days.
The article that came out in Choson Sinbo, a publication by North Korean residents living in Japan, also criticized the US for continuing provocative actions against the reclusive state by conducting joint military exercises with countries in the East Asian region. “The U.S. is feared to take an additional step and cross ‘the red line’ drawn by North Korea to pull the trigger of an all-out showdown,” the article said. It claims that the other countries in the six-party talks, particularly China, are pushing for the resumption in order to “ward off” this move by the US. The talks were initiated in order to convince Pyongyang to stop altogether its nuclear and missile testing program, but stalled when North Korea pushed through with their tests.
“The vicious circle of tension escalation could reach its extremity,” if the talks will not resume soon, the article, entitled “The biggest fear is a rash act by the U.S” states. But it also warned the US that if they do not stop their provocations, Pyongyang will push through with the nuclear testing. South Korea’s Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin said that according to the intelligence they have gathered, North Korean officials have readied the fourth nuclear test and they are just waiting for the proper timing before they proceed.
