After a man charged with a separate offense hinted of his involvement in the 2005 death of a 7 year old girl found in Hitachiomiya, Ibaraki Prefecture, police have re-opened the case and are now investigating his participation in the crime. The man, in his 30s and a native of Kanuma, Tochigi Prefecture, did not offer further information except for suggesting that he kidnapped the girl.
A student of Osawa Elementary School in Imaichi, Yuki Yoshida was 7 years old in 2005 when she was killed. She was on her way home from school on December 1 and was last seen in the company of her classmates at a three-way road junction in Imaichi. Her body was found 65 kilometers away, in a forest area called Miyoshi in Hitachiomiya. Her body sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest, and she died due to blood loss.
Investigators at that time believe Yoshida was kidnapped right after she bid goodbye to her classmates. As no one saw her from that time until she reached Miyoshi, they think the suspect drove away with her on their way to the forested area where her body was found. Police from the prefectures of Tochigi and Ibaraki are now working closely together to gather evidence and find witnesses who may have seen something related to the crime then.
