If you like to eat salty food, then this is not good news for you. A study from Japan has discovered that people who eat salted food in large quantities will almost double the risk of stomach cancer. It’s mostly common knowledge that food with a lot of sodium chloride can eventually lead to high blood pressure, but this new study from Japanese researchers also connects salt to increased risk of stomach cancer as well.

For the first time since the March 2011 nuclear accident in the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, farmers in the Miyakojimachi district of Tamura have begun planting rice in what was once a no-go zone. It's also the first time that any kind of farming has been tried out in any former hot zone that's within 20 km of the now inactive plant. Miyakojimachi is the only district that has completed decontamination according to the Fukushima prefecture.

A report in the Japanese weekly Shukan Bunshu warns of allegedly contaminated chicken imported from China that may be finding its way into the stocks of Japan’s top fast food retailers. Shuuji Okuno, author of the said piece, is worried that fast food chains that offer chicken in their menu might be getting poultry that is potentially hazardous to one’s health.

The Japanese Culinary Academy is in its third year with researchers from Kyoto University on a project called Japanese cuisine laboratory study group.

They had their cake and probably ate it too, because there was really a lot of cake. Around 90 patissiers and students from a catering college in Tokyo baked their way into the Guinness World of Records by creating the world's longest roll cake, taking away the title from the previous record holder and fellow Japanese, Shotengai Shinkokumiai Takasaki Chubu Meitengai and Takasaki Chuoginza Shotengai Shinkokumiai from Takasaki.
