While December 31st means New Year's Eve to those in Japan and the rest of the world, it also marks 12 years since a family of four in Tokyo's
Setagaya Ward were found murdered in their home; a crime that
remains unsolved. Tokyo police officers paid their respects outside the house where 44 year Mikio Miyazawa, his wife Yasuko, 41, and their children Niina, 8, and Rei, 6, were found dead on the morning December 31st, 2000.

Tokyo police say that on Wednesday, an 86 year old man reportedly killed a woman in front of her home in Setagaya Ward, and then took his own life shortly after. Shigemasu Tokunaga, a former police officer himself, used a
sword to slash 62 year old Setsuko Kubo in the neck at around 11:30 AM, leaving her bleeding in the street. Locals found her and called for help, but she was declared dead at 1 PM after being rushed to the hospital.

Police officials revealed on Wednesday that they arrested a 20 year old man for trying to kidnap a 12 year old girl in Hiroshima on Tuesday night. The young man in custody is Tomohiro Kodama, a college student from Setagaya, Tokyo. He is said to have
forced the elementary school student into a large travel bag by threatening her with a knife.
