A teacher from an elementary school in the Kusatsushi area in Shiga Prefecture has admitted to installing a camera in the girls’ bathroom after the device was discovered by one of the students. He admitted to being the one to put it there, but only because he was just “testing out” the new camera he bought.
On May 31 at around 10:30 AM, a fifth grader at the unnamed school noticed that there was a suspicious looking device at the toilet inside the girls’ bathroom. Upon further inspection, she realized it was a camera and so immediately reported it to the school authorities. The school conducted a swift internal investigation and the teacher immediately came forward to confess. It was also found out that he just recently returned to the school after taking a nine month break due to a mental breakdown. The teacher explained that he just recently bought the camera and he just testing it out. He apologized to students “who have been distressed by the incident.”
Of course such a lame excuse would not fly with any level-headed school official and so the incident was reported to the police who might be filing charges of “unauthorized entry with the purpose of taking voyeuristic photos.” The Kusatsushi Board of Education is also looking into the matter and treating it with “utmost seriousness.” According to Itsuro Miki, one of the leading figures in the board, they will be working hard to restore the parents’, students’ and the public’s trust in the education system.
