Japan currently faces a major watershed moment since the end of the WWII. The system once functioned so well in politics, economy, society, and education currently undergoes significant transitions. The struggles to change have been, at numerous occasions, frustrated by those hold fast the vested interests. Especially after the 3.11 Tohoku Earthquake and the subsequent nuclear disaster, the systemic illness, seen either in the government’s inadequacy or the TEPCO’s blatant concealment, has begun to come under the bright spotlight on the World Political stage.
Given the current situation in Japan, we believe that there is an ever-growing need to engage the world by delivering news and information concerning Japan. Unfortunately, the most of Japanese media tends to have a strong vested interest with the ailing system–indeed they themselves are part of it. Other English media simply fall short of the heightened demand for clear, fair, and cut-to-the-point news sought in this information age.
We believe that it is our task and mission to engage the world with a never-ceasing flow of news and editorials. We plan to keep readers up-to-date on Japanese politics, economy, society, and culture with our daily news. At the same time, we offer our critical and more in-depth engagement with weekly editorials. All our contributors will either be Japanese or resident foreigners. Let us begin to witness the dawn of the new era of Japan!
