Hideaki Asakawa, a 52-year-old practicing chiropractor and proprietor of the Asakawa Chiropractic Clinic in Tokyo, has been arrested on allegations of raping and molesting a number of his patients in the clinic. According to evidence gathered by the police, Asakawa drugged his patients in his clinic – located in the Japanese capital’s Ota Ward – to put them to sleep before sexually molesting them.
According to the police report, Asakawa’s clinic is advertised in Mixi, a social networking platform. The clinic is marketed to be “better than aesthetic salons” because of the treatments available. Little did the patients know that there was a sexual predator in the clinic. According to the reports, Asakawa drugged his women victims by lacing fruit juice with sleeping powder. He offered it to his patients as a “cleansing drink”, with very good health effects for the body. As soon as the women patients were knocked out, Asakawa molested them. These actions were proven by video evidence captured from Asakawa himself. The police searched his household for evidence as part of the investigation against him, and found the video files on computer. The video confirmed Asakawa’s modus operandi, and also gave the police leads on the other victims. The videos show that there were more than 20 rape victims.
Amid all these, Asakawa is still claiming innocence. When arrested by the police, he claimed that the sexual acts were “consensual.” In another statement, he also claimed the acts seen on the videos were “part of his treatment” regiment. This is not the first time the police have taken Asakawa into custody – in 2002, he was also taken in for tax fraud for getting 2.4 million yen (about US$23,400) worth of tax refunds from illegal or fake companies.
