World’s most expensive skincare cream from Japanese cosmetics firm Shiseido

How much are you willing to pay for the most luxurious skincare cream? More than the price of gold? Because that’s what you’ll need to do come September 21st when Japanese cosmetics company Shiseido Co. will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its beauty product line “Cle de Peau Beaute” with the release of “La Creme.” The price? Only 1,050,000 yen (approx. $13,260) for the single 50 gram (1.76 ounces) jar.

That’s right, that tiny little jar comes down to being worth roughly $265 per gram, more expensive than the price of gold, which is currently valued at $52 per gram. Not only that, but only three jars of the cream will be sold. Shiseido says that each jar is hand-made and contains 30 layers of crystals and three platinum rungs. It is being jointly produced by Japan’s largest cosmetics company and world-recognized French glass-maker Crystal Saint-Louis. Orders for the three-of-a-kind jars will only be accepted at the company’s main store in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district, starting on August 30th. But don’t give up hope yet! Shiseido says that if more than three orders are received, they will hold a raffle drawing to pick the lucky purchasers.

Company representative Megumi Kinukawa says that Shiseido doesn’t normally make limited edition products, but they chose to make an exception for this special occasion celebrating the Cle de Peau Beaute line. She adds that the company hopes it will appeal to their most loyal customers and those interested in luxury brands. Shiseido says the skincare line is the best there is in terms of its anti-aging properties, and its able to both lift and tighten the skin on the face. What they don’t tell you is that it also has the ability to both open and empty your wallet with the greatest of ease.
